Seven kilometers of paved road wind through shady hammocks, along grassy marshes while the coast associated with Upper Myakka Lake. The North Drive usually has less traffic compared to the principal Drive. Bicycles are permitted on backcountry dirt roadways north of State path 72 as well as on the Myakka Island Trail into the Carlton Reserve. Some roadways are hardpacked and grassed-over; other people can be sandy, dirty or dug up by feral pigs. Roadways in many cases are inundated during the summer.
Maps can be obtained during the ranger station. Helmets are very suitable for all cyclists and Florida legislation calls for helmets for cyclists age 16 and below.
Myakka is really a place that is wonderful see wild wild wild wild birds of all of the sorts. Myakka’s 37,000-plus acres offer wonderful habitat for wading birds, raptors, songbirds, migratory wild wild birds, and ducks. Whether you might be a professional or amateur, you may not be disappointed.

From through mid-April, there is a bird naturalist at the Birdwalk most days of the week from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m november. Phone the ranger place in advance to see you plan to visit if they are on duty the day.
