With the days becoming hotter and hotter, it’s no surprise that almost everyone’s out to cool off at the beach. While that’s certainly a great idea, you shouldn’t risk on skimping the sunscreen. Having hotter days means more chances of getting skin ailments especially on kids. In fact, one of the growing and leading skin cancers to date is melanoma. It targets the younger populace, specifically the ages 15 to 29 so you’ll want to be careful before stepping out.
Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer but you can still provide some protection on yourself and your kids by following these tips.
– You’ll want to avoid tanning. Despite having a darker skin tone, a tan doesn’t mean that your skin is more protected against the sun’s harsh rays. In fact, darker skin tones have less protection against the sun’s UV rays so you’ll want to keep your sun exposure to a minimum. It’s best you avoid spending much time outside from 10 am to 4 pm.
– Sunscreen is your best friend. Never step out of the house without it. An important to remember is to let it sit for at least 30 minutes on your skin. Sunscreen needs to be absorbed into your skin in order for it to work, as opposed to immediately heading out. Never forget to reapply! Sunscreen only lasts for a good two or three hours thus you’ll need to put more when the time goes by.
– Stay in the shade when you can. Even if you’ve lathered yourself in copious amounts of sunscreen, staying in the shade not only helps minimalize the damage UV rays can cause but also give your body the time to cool off. Try to keep yourself hydrated during this time.
